Our review unit came with a 15.6-inch 1080p panel that boasts a 144Hz refresh rate, the sole choice for the Zephyrus M GU502GV. It’s an unremarkable but handsome laptop with the right proportions and a hefty, reliable look. It’s disappointing to see a new processor produce no noticeable upswing in performance and, since it’s early in the Core i7-9750H’s life, I can’t say for sure whether this will become a trend. However, you can find better performance. It's surprising, however, that the GS65 Stealth and its GTX 1660 Ti performed markedly better. The trim, light Asus ROG Zephyrus M (GU502GV) is a solid-enough gaming laptop all around, but for the price and performance as tested in our RTX 2060 config, it's not the top value we've seen. Fortnite is nearing a 50GB install size, while Destiny 2 is approaching 100GB. Between the picture quality and the feature set, the screen on this laptop should be a real crowd-pleaser. The mid-range Nvidia RTX 2060 will feel obsolete within three years, but the processor will be mighty for at least five years. The machine easily handled Shadow of War at 1080p on very high graphics settings, maintaining between 35 frames-per-second and 55 fps as Lara Croft snuck up on an armed enemy and plunged a pickaxe into his back. Our favorite pick in this price range, however, is Acer’s Predator Triton 500. While the panel is a bit dim, it doesn’t compete as much with ambient lighting, so it often looks brighter than it really is.
