While we can only speculate, I think the trimmer was indeed the main reason for the unexpected update. While the original Series 9 models were either wet & dry (like the 9095cc or 9093s) or dry only shavers (9090cc), the wet & dry seal is present on all the shavers in the updated Series 9 lineup (92xx and 93xx). My advice is not to wash out with water because that breaks the sensor which detects the cleaning fluid level and the station then will not function until you take it apart and short the sensor out. And this is a bit of bummer since it takes away some of that hassle-free maintenance promised by the station. But yes, it’s not really something that should prevent you from buying the 9376cc or 9370cc.
