There are many car owners who have had their car tuned and have had years of troublefree driving. In regard to improved fuel efficiency, this really depends on how you drive your car. If you never use the increased power, it really doesn't matter.

As said, I would think a 'personal' remap to suit your car, fuel grade and driving style not on the cheap would be best. If you're making a race engine that will be rebuilt regularly, your tolerance for reliability is different from me driving to work every day.
