You're almost there! Only one new movie, The Empty Man, landed in the top five this weekend, with much of the rest of the films at the box office remaining similar to last weekend. It's striking that eXistenZ, a send-up of computer games that parodied The Matrix avant la lettre, and one of the great underappreciated movies of the late 1990s, yields the richest trove of relics. I just don't happen to like puzzle films of any kind, but I must credit Mr. Cronenberg with more intellectual depth than most of his fellow pessimistic movie pranksters.
