Was nervous leaving my vehicle but didn’t have a problem. I would love to do this trail every chance i get. Pretty amazing. THE HIKE: The full Redwood Creek Trail travels some 8-plus miles to the Tall Trees Grove—a trip there and back is more than a day’s worth of hiking. Only reason why i gave it a 4 instead of a 5, was that redwood was closed so we had to hike alot of extra miles, that being said i still would do this trip again! A mile further, a second long, high bridge, which is badly deteriorating (it’s missing some of its planks and handrails), crosses the lush fern-lined gully of Forty-Four Creek. On the other side of the creek, the trail enters the Tall Trees Grove. Hiked only half of this since it started getting a bit repetitive around mid way point , but it was a beautiful trail! Definitely recommend camping along the creek. In the fall and spring it might be possible to ford the creek, but during the winter rains the creek becomes a raging torrent and can’t be crossed. Definitely a bucket list for backpacking. There are several things you need to know about this hike:

Because this trail follows the creek, you see a LOT of towering Maples and some astonishingly tall Douglas Fir. We had never seen so many! The summer bridges had been removed, so there were two places where we had to cross the creek with our shoes on (at the 1.5 mile mark and again right before the Tall Trees Grove).

Backpacked this on 5/5-5/6, the trail was closed at that time so we took the long way to Elam Camp, we did the Orick Horsetrail which was 8 mile in 8 miles out, the trail was super gorgeous surrounded by some of the tallest trees in the world! the river at the tall trees section was a little sketchy. Here the route reverses course to the parking lot at 3.2 miles.

Totally remote and quiet. Absolutely gorgeous trail. They took down the bridges 3 or 4 days ago. On our first day we covered 12 miles.
