It brings the supernatural drive-in movie thrills galore but also intelligently and respectfully explores a number of timely and relevant issues, from the journey of a transgender character to why it’s still not easy for a stereotypically macho jock to come out to the often complicated relationships between young women who are all about girl power and supporting one another — but can be as mean as the “Mean Girls” from days gone by. While it’s nice to see more witches of color and an openly trans witch, it would’ve been much more effective if these characters were fleshed out as complex people with subplots of their own, as in the original film. The set became a community in which all four actors formed their own IRL coven. While fans of the franchise might not unequivocally be on board with the idea of a follow-up, it's hard to deny that Legacy carries the torch of the original film -- and according to its writer and director, it might not be the final installment in the franchise.
